growing up here brought back memories
I am from Oshkosh and was a bit disappointed in this book. many more landmarks and things could have been in this book. seemed a bit repeticious.....
If you grew up in Oshkosh in the 50's like I did you will especially enjoy this book. Short stories makes it easy reading. It took me back in time remembering places and things I did that had escaped my memory. I am getting the entire set for my children so they can relate to my upbringing. Especially those that were born in Oshkosh. It is a history of thair parents and ansestors.
A fascinating book which includes an incredible amount of information about the history of Oshkosh which an individual who has lived there cannot help but find fascinating. I highly recommend it.
Oshkosh is my home town also which is why I bought the book. Mr. Domer writes well and his stories have a feeling of respect for his subjects in his various chapters. Will look forward to reading another of his books should he choose to write another. Oshkosh certainly provides enough material for another.
I bought one these at a local store just because the author was there signing them, and ended up also getting one as a Christmas gift for my sister and ordering two copies for the library where I work. In every chapter, I found at least one "Oh, I remember that!" item. My sister also loved it, and shared it with her husband. Even for local folks, it might not mean much if you're under thirty. But the writing is good, and there are some photos. This would make a great gift for people who grew up in this area.
The Athearn, Drive Ins, Pizza Parlors, all places I grew up visiting as a customer!! Jim Senderhauf writes about the Athearn,an old chum! The Trails End (Van's Hot Dogs), Chabby Lautenschlager,a family favorite artiste ! Downtown Oshkosh and the "ROCKET CORNER", Oldsmobile dealership !!!
